Channel One Regional Food Bank and Aldi are Working Together to Help End Hunger

May 18, 2018 –Rochester, MN–Channel One Regional Food Bank recently received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from Aldi to allow us to assist our member agencies with their abilities to increase the amount of Retail Food Donation Program foods being distributed to people in need.

With 185 Channel One Regional Food Bank agency partners, it is critical to invest in the capacity of our agencies in order to feed more people in need.  Through the Retail Food Donation Program, Feeding America Food banks and member agencies pick up food donations that might otherwise be recycled or go to waste and distribute them to people in need.  Of the 4.2 billion meals secured in 2017, more than 1.3 billion were captured through the Retail Store Donation (RSD) program.

Last fiscal year, Channel One Regional Food Bank and our partners distributed over 9.3 million pounds of food to over 100,000 individuals in need in Southeast Minnesota and La Crosse County, Wisconsin.  Over 6.2 million pounds of the food distributed was acquired through donations from our valuable partners, including those who participate in the Retail Food Donation Program.

ALDI, Inc. rolled out a uniform store donation program in 2016, and ended the year graciously donating over 16.3 million pounds of food to the Feeding America network.  ALDI, Inc. continues to grow its partnership with Feeding America in an effort to positively impact local communities while supporting environmental stewardship and reducing waste.  ALDI, Inc. believes in contributing to a better world, and helping to build strong communities through local and regional initiatives which support health and wellness for children and youth.
