Rochester, MN — (May 17, 2018) — On Saturday, May 12th, letter carriers, their postal patrons, and Seneca Foods, raised 83,270 pounds of food for Channel One, during the 26th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.  Stamp Out Hunger, a national food drive coordinated by the National Letter Carriers Association, partners letter carriers with local food shelves to help feed people in need, and is the largest one day food drive in the country.

Locally, letter carriers brought in 41,794 pounds of food, and Seneca Foods contributed 41,476 pounds of food in honor of TJ Palmby and Preacher Palmby, former letter carriers. In total, 83,270 pounds of food were collected and transported by Channel One volunteers and postal workers from the Bear Creek Post Office and the Valleyhigh Post Office in Rochester.

The food will be distributed locally.  The timing is especially important because it comes just in time for summer, a time when many families need additional food support.  Over 23,000 children in southeast Minnesota no longer have access to school and lunch programs over the summer months, and as a result, the food shelf sees much higher than normal usage, but donations of food generally decrease.

“The postal carriers, and our community, go above and beyond to help us fight hunger through the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive,” said Virginia Merritt “The food that was donated by postal customers, along with the generous donation from Seneca Foods, will help us prepare to feed thousands of families this summer. We are so grateful for everyone’s support.”

In addition to food donations, financial contributions in support of feeding people in need can be made to Channel One online at
